Bee Savers Malta
We started out by capturing urban swarms for redirection into the wild, dissemination of ideas and educational activities. With a hands on approach, numerous colonies of bees were saved from destruction. It is now apparent that the Ruttneri strain is of great rarity, possibly reaching (VU) status. Of more concern is that even the established wild bee populations were struggling to survive due to general drought and lack of foraging space. Therefore in order to conserve bees, one must also restore the macro climate, namely achieving the significant increase of bee foraging areas. This has been our holistic vision ever since.

These will eventually be used for a possible afforestation within the Maltese Archipelago once a suitable area is earmarked with the help of Central Government or other NGOs. The greater the number of ACTIVE members, the larger will be the pool of trees to combat the shortage available for such projects. In this page, one will find information from where and when seeds / cuttings can be collected and hints on when and how to sow / plant them. The ‘Grow 10 Trees’ project is aimed at anyone who has a love for trees and is willing to find a very small corner in the garden, yard or even balcony to grow at least 10 local trees.
